The City of East Palo Alto's third temporary traffic circle has been installed at Fordham & Notre Dame.
In my previous blog post, I wrote about a third temporary traffic circle that was going to be installed at Fordham & Notre Dame in East Palo Alto, CA. I am happy to report that it was successfully installed, and I wanted to share some drone photos that I took.
In addition to the temporary traffic circle, temporary crosswalks were also installed. In the weeks after I took these drone photos, Public Works made some improvements to close the traffic circle gap at the manhole, which I do not have photos of.
We do not have any sensors to get metrics on vehicle speeds or number of pedestrian crossings. I hope that the City can use Streetlight data retroactively in the future to see if the median vehicle speed has changed. I also hope we can see if the number of students walking to the CostaƱo School increases over the coming years. Unfortunately, these survey tallies only happen once per year, and it will be difficult to attribute any potential increases to this project. If you have any ideas for how to track these success metrics, please reach out. These metrics can help make it more likely that the City's third temporary traffic circle will be converted to a permanent mini roundabout like the first 2 on Pulgas Ave have been approved to be converted.
